Report paves way for Heath cycle lanes
A report into walkers and bicyclists on Hampstead Heath has paved the way for a final decision on whether new cycle routes can be installed in the new year.
The City of London report, used researchers to discover how many people used paths on the Heath over the summer and whether they would be suitable for bikes as well as walkers. The findings highlighted that out of campaigners’ seven proposed new cycle routes, five could be converted to mixed use. The findings will be discussed by the Heath consultative and management committees, and a decision on any extra routes taken in March.
Camden Cycling Campaign’s Jean Dollimore said she hoped the routes that were shown to be suitable for bicycles would be given fair consideration by the consultative and management committees.
She said: “If the public were consulted on whether these routes were a good idea, I think they would be accepted.”
