Parishes forge entente cordiale…via Eurostar
THE priest from the parish that covers Paris’s Gare du Nord station hopped on Eurostar to meet Camden Town’s Father Nick Wheeler on Tuesday and celebrate a new partnership between their churches.
Father Bruno Horaist, who tends a Roman Catholic flock at the church of St Vincent de Paul, travelled to London to celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at St Pancras Old Church led by Bishop of Edmonton the Right Rev Peter Wheatley.
Father Nick said: “We thought we would create this link between our two communities to celebrate the opening of the station. We shall be visiting Paris in March to see their church and we hope to begin an ongoing conversation with them about the issues we as churches face.”
Father Bruno said he was “very impressed” with the recent renovation of St Pancras station. Despite the language barrier, he would have understood the evening service as Father Nick, who speaks Spanish and Portuguese fluently, remembered enough of the French he learned at school to translate the lessons read. |
