Train to take strain
• THOSE of us who regularly use the North London Line will welcome the new Overground service run by Transport for London (Ken’s red revolution promises safer trains, November 15). It was appropriate that Ken Livingstone launched the service from Hampstead Heath station. As well as new trains and more staff, readers may like to know that TfL has already announced that this station will be changed from zone 3 to zone 2 from January.
This change is in no small part thanks to pressure from Labour Assembly Members like Nicky Gavron and Murad Qureshi, as well as lobbying by local Labour activists. We knew from talking to residents and user groups that it was a real bugbear for local people. Now this anomaly will be corrected, and more people will be encouraged to switch from their cars and let the train take the strain. MIKE KATZ
