A-level day of reckoning
THERE were triumphant fists punching the air and commiserating cuddles this morning (Thursday) as sixth-formers across Camden collected their A-level results.
Early indications show Camden schools have fared better than the national average, with 75 per cent of pupils at La Swap – the sixth form college for Acland Burghley, Parliament Hill, La Sainte Union and William Ellis – getting grades A to C.
With a bumper crop of high flying students, teachers say they expect a record number of Camden pupils to become undergraduates this year.
Sister Theresa Finn, head at La Sainte Union, said many students were opting not to take a gap year and because of the cost of going to university were often choosinbg universities in or around London to allow them to continue living at home.
She said: “We have had a good group of hard working young people, and they can all be proud of their efforts today.”
