Wenger to keep faith in his triumphant teens
Arsenal boss’s selection headache after Liverpool mauling
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is tempted to stick with his young Gunners side ahead of their mouth-watering Carling Cup semi-final encounter against north London rivals Spurs.
Wenger (below) watched in amazement as his triumphant teenagers stormed to an emphatic 6-3 victory against Liverpool on Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the cup at Anfield.
With a selection dilemma looming ahead of their semi-final first leg away at Spurs on January 24, the Frenchman has revealed that fans can expect to see more of the same at White Hart Lane.
Talking on the official Gunners’ website, Arsenal.com, Wenger said: “I am highly tempted to pick the youngsters against Tottenham. They went to Everton and beat them, they came to Anfield and beat Liverpool and they won at West Brom. They have earned the right to play.”
With the Carling Cup semi-finals being over two legs, Wenger can afford to take a risk away at Spurs before the second leg return at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, January 31st.
But Wenger doesn’t see it as a gamble, and is so confident in his young guns that he has again ruled out any movement in the January transfer window. “We feel the future of the club is very promising. If we keep the players together and the spirit is right, there is a chance for the future, “We still have players like Gallas, Ljungberg and Adebayor who are coming back from injury. That is why I said for a long time that I wouldn’t buy anyone.”
